August 1, 2010 Blood Bank Hawaii We'll get an update on Blood Bank Hawaii--what the demand is, how the process works, and more. Date uncertain!, 2010 Ahupua'a Restoration Kawika Winter is director of Kaua'i's Limahuli Garden. He was recently on Hawaii Island and spoke at both Keauhou Beach Resort and UH Hilo about ahupua'a restoration. He'll tell us about it, too. Shows We're Working On Some of the broadcasts we're working to set up (and mahalo plenty to listeners who have suggested some of these): Did you know our island will have an Air Show? Yes, the first Hawaii Air Show Invitational will be at Keahole International Airport in May, 2011. We'll talk with organizer Terri Thomas, Airport Manager Chauncey Wong Yuen, and Mayor Billy Kenoi. With all the talk about the new Kona side Ane Keohokalole Highway, the first road the county will have built since 1959 and for which Hawaii County is receiving $34 million in stimulus funds--there has been little talk about Lai Opua 2020. Should there be? Yes, because the new highway will facilitate building a community center just on the Ka'u side of Kealakehe High School. We will talk story with Bo Kahui, executive director of Lai Opua 2020 about the plans. We're going to try to get Aunty Josephine Barney, born and raised in Kona at a time when she rode her mule to school at what is now the Kailua-Kona Library, to tell us more about her life. I talked with Major General Peter Pawling, Chief of State of the Pacific Command, about the role of the military in Hawaii, what Rimpac is...I hope to get him in the studio within the next few months. Stay tuned for more! And thanks for listening, AND for your input.
